Speech and Hearing Association of India, West Bengal (SHAIWB) is a branch of the Indian Speech and Hearing Association and was formed on the 20th day of October 2009. West Bengal has played a significant role in the lineage of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology in India right since its inception. Though the initial growth in this intellectual hub had been slow over the past 5 decades the number of professionals engaged in rehabilitation of the speech and hearing impaired have increased significantly. The growing multitude of professionals necessitated the formation of an organization, hence the Speech & Hearing Association, a brain child of both the veterans & the budding minds was created in 2009. The idea of the association was to bring together different minds working for the same cause, render a mouth to the collective opinions and interact and exchange ideas aimed at better rehabilitation. The registered office of the society is located at Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan), Eastern Regional Centre, B.T. Road, Bon Hooghly, Kolkata, 700090.

To promote excellence in speech and hearing rehabilitation by providing professional development, advocacy, and community outreach throughout West Bengal. We strive to empower audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and educators to deliver quality care to all individuals with communication disorders.

A society where every individual, regardless of hearing or speech challenges, has access to expert care, support, and opportunities for full participation in life.

The Speech & Hearing Association of India, West Bengal Branch (SHAIWB) was established on 1st January 2009. Founded by a coalition of experienced professionals and emerging experts, SHAIWB has become a premier organization representing speech and hearing specialists in the region. Over the years, it has successfully organized conferences, training workshops, awareness camps, and advocacy programs to improve rehabilitation services and public understanding.
